The news of the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has plunged the entire country into mourning. Dr. Singh, who was the Prime Minister of the country for 10 years, died at the age of 92 due to illness. On Thursday 26 December, he breathed his last at AIIMS Hospital, New Delhi. He was declared dead at AIIMS at 9.51 pm on Thursday night. After the demise of Dr. Singh, everyone is paying tribute to him. Indian sports stars also expressed grief over the demise of the former Prime Minister and paid tribute to him. Many players including former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh remembered him.

‘The one who stood out among them was…’

Veteran former spinner Harbhajan Singh posted his pictures with Manmohan Singh on social media and also wrote an emotional tribute message for him. Terming his demise as tragic, Harbhajan described Manmohan Singh as a gentleman and a visionary leader. Harbhajan further wrote, “What made him different was his calm and steady leadership in times of crisis, his handling of the complex political scenario and his constant faith in India’s potential. The country will always remember the contributions of Dr. Saheb. My condolences to his family and relatives.”

Sehwag-Yuvraj also remembered

Team India’s former explosive opener Virender Sehwag also expressed grief over the demise of Dr. Singh and remembered him. Sehwag wrote on his X handle, “My heartfelt tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ji on his demise.”

Team India’s former star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also expressed grief over his demise. Yuvraj wrote, “A visionary and true politician, who made continuous efforts for the progress of India. His knowledge and simplicity will always be remembered. My condolences to his loved ones.”

It was only after Dr. Manmohan Singh became the Prime Minister that the country won the title of the first T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup of 2011. Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh were part of the team of both these teams, which met PM Singh after winning the title. Apart from these, other personalities associated with the sports world expressed grief over the demise of the former PM.
