The figure has been stuck at 5000mAh for seven generations

Samsung had provided a large battery of 5000mAh for the first time in the Galaxy S20 Ultra launched in the year 2020. Since then, till the recently launched Galaxy S26 Ultra, the company has maintained this capability for seven consecutive generations. The company has always avoided increasing the size of the battery to maintain safety protocols and the slim design of the phone. But now when Chinese smartphone makers are offering batteries ranging from 6000mAh to 7000mAh in their flagship and mid-range devices, Samsung is also under heavy pressure to upgrade.

What are the claims of leaked reports? Silicon-Carbon or Lithium-Ion?

Currently, two different claims are being made among tech industry insiders and tipsters regarding the battery of Galaxy S27 Ultra. According to global tech analysts, this phone will have a direct competition with Apple’s upcoming Pro Max model.

  • According to the tipster’s report, Samsung’s subsidiary Samsung SDI is currently evaluating 5,600mAh and 5,800mAh lithium-ion battery cells. If this test is successful, users can get a capacity of more than 5500mAh for the first time.
  • On the other hand, ‘Ice Universe’, one of the most trusted tipsters in the tech industry, has rubbished the claims of a major upgrade. According to him, Samsung is avoiding adopting the new Silicon-Carbon technology due to high manufacturing costs. In such a situation, the company can limit it to 5,200mAh with only minor improvements.

Direct competition with foreign competitors

“Samsung is working on lithium-ion design density and software optimization (OneUI) to increase its battery capacity to compete with the new iPhone models.”
— Global Tech Analysis Report, July 2026

This upgrade is also necessary for Samsung because Apple had increased the battery size in its iPhone 17 Pro Max to 5,088mAh and there are preparations to increase it further in the upcoming models. The coordination of iPhone’s in-house processor and operating system allows for more screen-on time even with less battery, which has always been a challenge for Samsung.
