According to WABetaInfo, a website that keeps an eye on new features of WhatsApp, the company is testing this birthday reminder feature. This feature has been seen in the latest Android beta version 2.26.27.3 of WhatsApp. However, this feature is currently in the development stage and even beta testers are not able to use it at the moment. In the coming time, the company may roll it out for selected users.

According to reports, WhatsApp may also add a new dedicated section, where users will be able to see a list of their contacts’ upcoming birthdays. Through this feature, users will not need to remember anything separately. The app itself will tell which friend or family member’s birthday is coming.

Under this feature, users will get birthday notification only when the concerned contact has shared his/her date of birth on WhatsApp. That is, if a person has not provided his birth date with WhatsApp, then the app will not be able to remind that person’s birthday.

According to reports, WhatsApp takes date of birth information from users for age verification in some areas. The company can use this data for the birthday reminder feature. However, date of birth information is not asked from WhatsApp users in all countries. In such a situation, where this information is not available, this feature may work in a limited way.

WhatsApp can bring this feature based on the consent of the users. That means whether users want to share their date of birth or not, it will be under their control. The official launch date of this feature has not been announced yet by the company. It is believed that after the testing is completed, it can be gradually released to all the users.
