The popular instant messaging app WhatsApp is used by millions of people to stay connected with their friends and family. To improve the user experience, the app regularly introduces new features. However, some people misuse the platform to spread misinformation, share fake photos, and even defraud others. To tackle this problem, WhatsApp is working on a new feature that aims to help users verify images.
With this new feature, users will be able to check the authenticity of an image directly within WhatsApp. Recently added to the Android beta version, the “Search on web” feature allows users to perform reverse image searches using Google Lens. This means users can check whether an image is real or fake without leaving WhatsApp. By clicking on an image and selecting the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner, users can verify images without opening the browser or the Google Lens app.
When will this feature be available?
Currently, this feature is in beta and available to a limited number of users. It may take some time to roll out for all users. Recently, WhatsApp also launched two other features: the ability to save contacts directly within the app and the option to mention people in statuses, similar to Instagram Stories.
