Meta-owned WhatsApp is working on an update that will replace those empty ‘grey’ profile icons with a photo saved in your phone’s contact list. How it will work: If any of your friends have not set a profile photo on WhatsApp, but you have a photo of them in your phone’s address book (Contacts). WhatsApp will now show the same photo in the chat list. Identification will be easy: Now you will not need to confirm just by reading the name, but as soon as you see the saved photo, you will understand who you are talking to. Full attention has been given to privacy. WhatsApp has kept privacy paramount with this feature. The main highlights of this change are: Only for you: This photo will only be visible on your own device. There will be no change in the privacy settings of your contacts. No data sharing: The photo you save will not be shared with WhatsApp’s servers or any other user. Control in your hands: If you have not saved any photo in the phone contacts, the default icon or user’s name will appear there as before. User experience will be even better. This feature will prove to be a boon especially for those who manage hundreds of contacts. It is often time-consuming to find contacts without a photo in group chats or in the search bar. After this update, your chat list will look more visual and organized. When will this feature come? According to reports, WhatsApp is testing this feature on Android and iOS beta versions.
