What is the Guest Chats feature of WhatsApp?
The Guest Chats feature will allow WhatsApp users to send a temporary invitation link to someone who does not use the app.
When the recipient clicks that link, he or she will be able to join the conversation directly in a browser.
He will not need to create a WhatsApp account to chat.
A temporary guest session will be created for the conversation.
This feature can be very useful for quick conversations with clients, customers, or new contacts who may not use WhatsApp.
How will the Guest Chat link work?
Users will be able to easily create Guest Chat links from the app.
This link can be created through the “Invite a Friend” section or at the bottom of the contact list.
Users can share this link through SMS, email or other messaging platforms.
The recipient can join the chat instantly by opening this link on a mobile or desktop browser.
A “Guest” label will appear next to the participant’s name to indicate that the participant is not a registered user of WhatsApp.
Limited features in Guest Chats
Since Guest Chats is primarily designed for temporary conversations, some features may not be available.
Guest users will not be able to use these features:
Group chats
Share photos or videos
share documents
GIF or sticker
Voice messages
Voice या video calls
This feature will mainly support simple text-based messaging.
Security and chat time limits
Despite limited functionality, WhatsApp will maintain its strong security standards.
Guest chats will be protected by end-to-end encryption.
A unique identifier and encryption key will be created for each guest chat session.
If there is no activity for 10 days, the chat will automatically expire.
To continue the conversation, users will have to create a new invite link. When will this feature be available?
Currently, the ‘Guest Chats’ feature is being tested in beta versions of WhatsApp. If this phase of testing is successful, then the company can release it worldwide in the upcoming updates.
