Username and Unique ID feature is coming on WhatsApp, now you can do secure chatting without sharing phone number.

WhatsApp Digital Commerce Privacy Evolution: To revolutionize the world of messaging, WhatsApp is now preparing to bring great privacy features like username and unique ID. With the help of these features, which will be launched globally by June 2026, users will be able to connect with others by hiding their phone number. This change will not only enhance personal security but will also provide new opportunities for businesses as its popularity is increasing in large markets like India. This step of Meta Platforms will prove to give a new direction to digital commerce and social discovery.

New step for privacy

After the new update of WhatsApp, now users will not need to give their mobile number to talk to a stranger. The company plans to let people create their own unique handle or username like other social media platforms. This will significantly increase the level of privacy and people will be able to connect with new friends, groups and businesses without any hesitation.

This new feature is expected to be completely optional so that users can continue using their old phone number if they wish. The main objective of the company is to provide the best experience to the users and prevent them from moving to rival platforms so that their base remains strong. Through this step, WhatsApp is working towards making its services even more user-friendly and secure.

New strategy for businesses

Not only for individual users but also for businesses, WhatsApp is going to bring a new and dynamic pricing system i.e. Dynamic Pricing. Under this, companies will be able to bid in real time to send their marketing messages, which will be a big change in the world of advertisements. Trials of this new system are expected to begin by the end of 2026 and will be fully implemented by 2027.

India is currently one of the largest markets for WhatsApp with more than 500 million active users. The report states that social media has a direct influence on approximately 77 percent of retail purchasing decisions in India and Meta is playing a key role in this. WhatsApp is now not only a medium for communication but has also become the most preferred platform for product discovery.

Consumers are now discovering new products through short-form videos and creators, which is changing the shopping experience. 60 percent of the time spent on Facebook and Instagram is now spent only on watching videos.

According to the report of Meta and Retailers Association of India, about 97 percent of consumers like to watch short videos daily. This is why messaging platforms like WhatsApp are now emerging as the main engine driving digital commerce. In the coming time, with the introduction of the username feature, the communication between businesses and customers will become even simpler and more secure.
