WhatsApp will now save incomplete chat messages as drafts

TECH: WhatsApp has introduced Drafts – a new feature that automatically saves and labels unfinished messages in chats to make them easier to find later. Drafts in WhatsApp is similar to most email services, where users can save messages to a dedicated folder to view them later. The new feature is now available on WhatsApp's Android and iOS apps, while its web and macOS versions will get it in the coming days.

“WhatsApp now has Drafts, making it easier to find and send incomplete messages,” Meta co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post on his channel. “We all need this,” he said.

This is a simple feature where users do not need to do anything. If a user leaves a message incomplete to send to a recipient, WhatsApp will automatically show “Draft” in green below the chat name, followed by the inputted text. The green label will make it easier for users to find the message from the list and continue where they left off – or, they can delete the draft by deleting the text saved in the chat. Recipients cannot see drafts unless they are sent as chat messages.

In other news, WhatsApp is reportedly working to streamline chat groups, especially those with more participants. According to a report by WhatsApp watchdog, WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned chat app is testing a “Highlights” filter that users can select when muting a group. This can help users pay attention to messages in which they are mentioned using “@” or bypass notifications by using only their name. However, for unimportant messages, the group chat will remain muted. Since the new functionality is currently being tested, it is available to a handful of users with access to the beta program. WhatsApp hasn't said when it will roll out the new group chat mute filter to the public.
