When CJI said that the system is turning a blind eye, the Supreme Court gave a strict ultimatum regarding the occupation of government land.

News India Live, Digital Desk: Encroachment of government land or illegal construction is not a new thing in our country. Often we see that officers keep sleeping like Kumbhakarna and when the case reaches the court, they wake up. But this time the Supreme Court has woken up such “sleeping” officers. The Chief Justice of the country (CJI) Justice Surya Kant was hearing a case of illegal encroachment. When the lax attitude of the officers came to light during the hearing, the CJI could not hide his displeasure and reprimanded the administration. “Why did you become a mute spectator?” It is something that the common people struggle with every day. The judges believed that such a huge construction or capture does not happen overnight. This goes on for months and years. So, were the government officials and field officers on leave at that time? An attack on collusion? This strict comment of the Supreme Court is being taken to mean that the court suspects either the negligence of the officers or their collusion. It is often seen that the administration does not take any action until the construction is completed and people start living in it. And later when the turn comes to break it, there is an uproar. The CJI made it clear that the excuse of “turning a blind eye” will no longer work. If government land has been encroached upon, then not only the encroachers are responsible, but also the officers who failed to stop them. Strong message to the system: This hearing has given a strong message to the municipal corporations and development authorities (like DDA etc.) across the country. The Supreme Court no longer wants clarification buried in files, but wants action on the ground. The officers will now have to understand that they are not only responsible for sitting in the office but also for protecting the public property. Now it has to be seen whether the administration will really lose sleep after this “scolding” of the Supreme Court or will the files keep crawling like this?
