When Delhi’s new LG reached the cafe, children raised questions about air quality.
Delhi’s new Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu said on Saturday that everyone will have to make joint efforts to improve the air quality of the capital. He said this when he met some children in a local cafe. The children expressed their concerns about the problem of pollution.
Taranjit Singh Sandhu wrote on X, ‘Today I met a very nice family at our Colony Café. Children raised important questions about Delhi’s AQI and the air we breathe. It was great to see his awareness.

Talk on air quality
He further said, ‘Collective efforts are needed to improve air quality. I would welcome practical ideas and suggestions. However, he did not elaborate on what the children said to him. Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) on Saturday morning was 145, which falls in the ‘moderate’ category. It was 189 on Friday evening, which means there has been an improvement. This information is from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
According to the Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS), the AQI is likely to remain in the ‘moderate’ category for the next few days.
What is AQI?
According to CPCB, AQI means-
0-50: good
51-100: satisfactory
101-200: Medium
201-300: bad
301-400: very bad
401-500: critical
BJP has been making allegations
The air in Delhi becomes very bad during many months of the year, especially in winter. This problem remains a topic of debate in politics also. The central government and Delhi’s ruling BJP have been blaming the earlier AAP government for this. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has promised gradual reforms.
Sandhu has been IFS
Taranjit Singh Sandhu is 63 years old. He has been an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of 1988 batch. On 11 March, he was sworn in as the 23rd Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. He has replaced VK Saxena, who has now been sent to Ladakh.

Sandhu served for more than 30 years. He has served as India’s Ambassador to the US, High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. In March 2024, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and contested the Lok Sabha elections from Amritsar, but lost to Congress candidate Gurjit Singh Aujla.
