When Dhoni got removed from captaincy in IPL, got replaced by…

MS Dhoni is a well-followed figure in Indian cricket and is among one of the most successful captains in history. Dhoni has enjoyed a lot of success in international cricket and was an absolute unit in the IPL as well.

Dhoni started his captaincy with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and led them in 14 seasons before he stepped down. Under his lead, CSK won five IPL titles. The franchise was most consistent from IPL 2008 to 2019 and even cleared the qualifications for 10 consecutive seasons.

Dhoni then moved to Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in 2016 and led the team in their debut. Though there were high hoped from Dhoni, he failed to continue his season with the new franchise.

He dropped India’s white-ball captaincy in January before the IPL 2017. A month later, Pune decided to change the roles and replaced Dhoni with Australia’s Steve Smith.

“I have the highest regard for MS Dhoni as a leader and a person. Dhoni will continue to be an important part of our team. He is supportive of the decision keeping the franchisee’s best interests in mind,” said Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of Rising Pune Supergiant.
