Lucknow, 26 February. Politics has intensified after Samajwadi Party (SP) announced to celebrate ‘PDA Day’ on the birth anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram. Bahujan Samaj Party (SP) national president Mayawati has launched a scathing attack on SP, calling it anti-Dalit, Other Backward Class and anti-Bahujan Samaj. Bahujan Samaj Party national president Mayawati wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “The announcement of celebrating ‘PDA Day’ on the birth anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram is just political theatrics.” He called it a show-off to garner votes from the marginalized sections.
Mayawati said that the move, character and face of Samajwadi Party has always been against the respect of BSP and Bahujan great men. The history of SP has been associated with injustice and atrocities against Dalits and weaker sections, which cannot be forgotten. This is being done by SP keeping in view the 2027 elections. Before today, SP had not even remembered him. Referring to the SP-BSP alliance of 1993, he said that even at that time the conditions to stop atrocities on Dalits were not followed.
Mayawati reminded the Lucknow State Guest House incident of June 2, 1995 and alleged that a deadly attack was carried out on her, which is recorded in history. At that time the Chief Minister of the state was Mulayam Singh Yadav. The BSP chief also alleged that the SP government changed the names of districts and institutions built in the name of Kanshi Ram. The names of many institutions including Kanshiram Nagar, Sant Ravidas Nagar and the Urdu-Persian-Arabic University established in Lucknow were changed, which is against the respect of the Bahujan community. Also accused of changing the name of the hospital built in the name of Kanshi Ram in Saharanpur.
Mayawati also accused the SP of adopting an anti-Muslim attitude and said that the riots that took place during the SP governments caused huge loss of life and property. He also said that SP and BJP have been strengthening each other’s politics, due to which the people of the state have had to suffer. Mayawati appealed and said that SP should answer why state mourning was not declared on the death of Kanshi Ram.
