When Vidya Balan had made up her mind to leave Bollywood, she started hating herself.

Vidya, who entered Bollywood 21 years ago, has created a distinct identity with her brilliant acting. But this journey of success was not easy. After going through theatre, TV, South cinema and rejection, Vidya finally made her place in Bollywood.

Born in Mumbai, was fond of acting since childhood

Vidya Balan was born on 1 January 1979 in Mumbai as P.R. Balan and Saraswati were born in Balan’s house. His father worked in the Human Resources Department, while his mother was a housewife. Vidya was fond of acting from the beginning, although her mother was against it. The father had set a condition that first one has to complete graduation, only then one will be allowed to pursue an acting career.

Vidya Balan started her career with theater and then appeared in Ekta Kapoor’s popular TV show ‘Hum Paanch’. He worked in this show for about one and a half years. After getting recognition on TV, he planned to work in South Cinema, but this decision did not prove successful for him.

Music video changed fate

After TV and South cinema, Vidya appeared in a music video, which was directed by Pradeep Sarkar. During the shooting, Pradeep Sarkar had promised him that he would definitely cast him in a film. He kept his promise and gave Vidya a chance in the film ‘Parineeta’.

Big debut in Bollywood with ‘Parineeta’

After working with Akshay Kumar in the film ‘Hey Baby’ in 2007, Vidya was trolled fiercely for her dress and weight. The constant taunts and criticism broke him. During this period, some of his films also did not do well at the box office. The situation became such that Vidya had even decided to leave Bollywood. He had told in an interview that at that time he started hating his body also.

‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Kahaani’ changed life

However, luck changed again. The tremendous success of films like ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Kahaani’ gave new heights to both Vidya Balan’s career and confidence. After these films, he not only made his strong place in Bollywood, but also proved that strong acting is the real stardom.
