When will DK Shivakumar take oath in Karnataka?

In a reshuffle in the seat of power, the Karnataka Congress government has now handed over the responsibility of the head of the state to senior party leader DK Shivakumar. He will take oath as the 25th Chief Minister of the state on June 3. Earlier, following instructions from the party high command, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had resigned from the post.

For the last three years, there was a tremendous tussle for the seat of power in Karnataka. Shivkumar will be elected as the leader of the legislature party on Saturday evening. Before this, there will be a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party on Saturday evening. In this, the formalities of electing Shivkumar as the leader of the legislative party will be completed.

AIC general secretary KC Venugopal, Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala will also attend the meeting. In the meeting, CLP will be the first to appreciate the services of Siddaramaiah. After this, Shivkumar will be formally elected as the new leader. If government sources are to be believed, the swearing-in ceremony will be held in the glass house of Lok Bhavan. It is expected that senior Congress leaders, cabinet colleagues, party workers and supporters from across Karnataka will attend the event.

The party took steps thoughtfully regarding the election of Shivkumar. 64-year-old Shivakumar’s announcement came a day after Siddaramaiah stepped down as chief minister following discussions with the Delhi Congress high command. In such a situation, it is also being seen as implementing the system prepared by the Congress regarding leadership.

Congress leader and MP Priyanka Gandhi had put forward DK’s name. Their relations have been quite cordial. He was active in Priyanka Gandhi’s election campaign in Wayanad during the Lok Sabha elections two years ago.

Along with DK Shivakumar, five other MLAs will also take oath as ministers. After this the party will decide on cabinet expansion. The party will hold a comprehensive discussion regarding cabinet expansion.
