When will India play next after winning the 2026 T20 World Cup?

India secured a historic third T20 World Cup title with a dominant 96-run victory over New Zealand in a one-sided final on Sunday. This triumph made India the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil, the first to defend the title successfully after their 2024 win, and the first to lift the trophy three times (2007, 2024, 2026).

New Zealand won the toss and opted to field first, a decision that quickly backfired. Abhishek Sharma returned to form with a blazing 52 off 21 balls, featuring six fours and three sixes, and shared a 98-run partnership with Sanju Samson. Sanju then combined with Ishan Kishan for a century stand (Kishan 54 off 25 balls with four boundaries and four sixes), pushing India past the 200-run mark by the 16th over. Shivam Dube’s quickfire 26* from eight balls, including three fours and two sixes, helped India finish at 255/5, the highest total in a T20 World Cup final. Samson managed 89 runs.

In response, New Zealand struggled to keep pace. Axar Patel (3/23) and Jasprit Bumrah (4/15) tore through the Kiwi batting lineup, reducing them to 72/5, despite Tim Seifert’s 52 off 26 balls, which included five sixes. While Daryl Mitchell (17) and captain Mitchell Santner (43 off 35 balls with three fours and two sixes) tried to stabilise the innings, wickets kept falling at regular intervals. New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 159, handing India a comprehensive victory.

After a short international break for the IPL, India will face Afghanistan in June in a series consisting of one Test and three ODIs. This will be followed by a limited-overs series against England in July, featuring five T20Is and three ODIs.
