The reigning men’s T20 World Cup champions are set to enter a new era in T20Is under the newly minted T20I captain Shreyas Iyer. Iyer takes over the captaincy and the middle-order spot from Suryakumar Yadav, the former captain being dropped from the side following a lean run in the T20 World Cup and the IPL 2026.
Iyer will begin his T20I captaincy tenure with a seven-match tour of the UK. On June 26 and 28, India will take on Ireland in Belfast before England host the Men in Blue from July 1 in a five-match T20I series.
This new era will also include the initiation of the teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi into international cricket, though how India fits him in the T20I XI is a conundrum for the management as Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma were vital in the title-winning campaign in February-March.
India are ravaged by injuries and unavailabilities. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have been rested for the T20I series against both Ireland and England, while Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy are both ruled out due to injuries.
Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy is still recovering from a left foot injury and will sit out the Ireland T20Is, and Kuldeep Yadav has been dropped from the T20I squad.
Suryansh Shedge has replaced Reddy in the squad, and Harshit Rana marks his return from a leg injury. Ravi Bishnoi, Prasidh Krishna, and Prince Yadav also found a place in the squad for the two T20I series.
IND vs IRE: What is the time of India vs Ireland T20Is?
The start time of the India vs Ireland T20I matches, on June 26 and 28, have been pulled ahead by one hour and will now start at 6 PM IST (1.30 pm local time). They were originally scheduled to start at 7 PM IST. This adjustment in the start time has been made because of the India vs Australia match at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on June 28 at Lord’s, whose start time is 7 PM IST.
To minimise the overlap of the India vs Ireland T20I and India vs Australia Women’s T20 World Cup match, the men’s T20I game will begin one hour earlier than its previously scheduled time of 7 PM IST.
As per Cricbuzz, Cricket Ireland had a discussion with the broadcaster of this series, with the broadcaster agreeing to the revised match time to prevent at least one hour of clash with the women’s IND vs AUS fixture.
