FIFA World Cup 2026 is starting from 11th June. Before the Mahakumbh of football, news of great relief has come to the fore for the fans. After a long wait and uncertainty, FIFA has finally got a broadcaster in India. Unite8 Sports, the sports arm of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL), has acquired the broadcast and streaming rights of FIFA World Cup 2026 in India.
ZEEL announced this deal with football’s world governing body (FIFA) on Monday (June 1). Under this deal, ZEE will telecast and stream all FIFA events in India from 2026 to 2034. A joint statement said that ZEEL will have the media rights for FIFA World Cup 2026, FIFA World Cup 2030, FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 along with other key FIFA events and docu-series content till 2034 for the Indian market.

Talk of broadcast deal could not be made
The upcoming FIFA World Cup is to be jointly hosted by America, Canada and Mexico. Due to the difference in time zones, most of the matches in India will be broadcast late at night and early in the morning, due to which many broadcasters were not very excited about this deal. After the deal signed by FIFA with ZEEL, now crores of Indian football fans will be able to enjoy the exciting matches of the World Cup.
Punit Goenka, CEO of ZEEL, said, ‘We are very excited to bring one of the world’s biggest sporting tournaments to Indian audiences. Our decision to purchase FIFA’s media rights and launch a new sports channel shows that we have complete confidence in the future of football in India.’
