Italian cuisine was named the world’s best for 2025-2026 by global food guide TasteAtlas, reclaiming the top spot from Greece.

The food guide recommended diners to enjoy must-try dishes in Italy including pizza napoletana, tartufo bianco d’Alba (white truffle of Alba), parmigiano reggiano (a cooked, hard parmesan cheese made from partially skimmed cow’s milk), prosciutto di san daniele (a cured seasoned ham) and pasta ‘ncasciata (a traditional pasta dish originating from Sicily).

Some iconic restaurants were Osteria Madonnetta in Marostica, Agriturismo Sapori Di Campagna in Ofena, Pizzeria Starita a Materdei in Naples, Osteria dell’Enoteca in Florence and Alle Codole in Canale d’Agordo.

Greek cuisine ranked second, followed by cuisine of Peru, Portugal and Spain.

Last month, U.N. cultural agency UNESCO recognized Italy’s national cuisine as an “intangible cultural heritage”, a formal accolade for a cookery tradition passed down through generations.

Founded in 2015, TasteAtlas links 9,000 local restaurants and showcases tens of thousands of dishes based on reviews and research by culinary experts, chefs, and users.

The site serves as a global map of traditional dishes made from local ingredients and aims to celebrate great food, foster pride in culinary traditions, and spark curiosity about dishes unfamiliar to many tourists.
