The new season of Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) is starting from 24th December. 32 teams will compete in the elite group in the VHT 2025-26 season. The final of the Elite Group will be played on January 18. Whereas 6 teams will face each other in the plate group. The final of the plate group will be held on January 8. This time a glimpse of all the big stars of Team India will be seen in VHT. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play 2-2 matches for their respective home teams.
Indian Test and ODI team captain Shubman Gill will also be seen performing for Punjab. Fans will also keep their eyes on the Karnataka team, which includes stars like captain Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Devdutt Padikkal and Prasidh Krishna. Karnataka team is going to defend its VHT title. It won the title for a record fifth time by defeating Vidarbha in the final of last season.

Karnataka’s dominance in VHT
Karnataka is the most successful team in the 17-year history of VHT. Karnataka has won the maximum 5 titles since this List-A tournament was named after former legendary cricketer Vijay Hazare in 2008.
She has been champion twice in a row in the 2013–14 and 2014–15 seasons. After this he won the title of 2017-18, 2019-20 and last season. The most special thing is that whenever the Karnataka team has reached the VHT final, it has captured the title.

Tamil Nadu and Bengal also have dominance
After Karnataka, Tamil Nadu is the team that has won the most VHT titles. Tamil Nadu has become champion 3 times so far. It won two titles back to back in the 2008–09 and 2009–10 seasons. Then she became champion in the 2016–17 season. However, since then she has lost two finals.
Like Tamil Nadu, Bengal has also reached the VHT finals 5 times but has won the trophy only once. Bengal won the VHT title for the first time by defeating Mumbai in the final of the 2011–12 season. Before this, she had lost the final match thrice.
Five years after ending the trophy drought, Bengal once again made it to the title match but this time it had to face defeat. Of the 4 defeats Bengal has suffered in the VHT final, 3 have been handed to it by Tamil Nadu.
These teams won the trophy 2-2 times
The most successful team of Ranji Trophy, Mumbai VHT has won the title only twice so far. It won the title for the first time in the 2018–19 season. She became champion for the second time in 2020-21 but since then she is away from the trophy. VHT’s first champion Saurashtra team also has two titles in its account.
After winning the title in 2007-08, Saurashtra achieved the honor of becoming VHT champions in 2022-23 under the captaincy of Jaydev Unadkat. Delhi team has won the title once (2012-13). She also came close to the title in the 2015–16 and 2018–19 seasons but missed out. Apart from Delhi, teams from Jharkhand, Gujarat, Himachal and Haryana have also tasted the VHT title once each.
