WHO Global Summit: PM Modi said – Yoga showed the whole world the path of health, balance and harmony.
New Delhi. The second World Health Organization (WHO) global conference on traditional medicine concluded on Friday with the address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In this international conference that lasted for three days at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital Delhi, traditional medicine experts, scientists, policy makers and representatives of the health sector from all over the world held deep and meaningful discussions.
WHO Director General Tedros Ghebreyesus, Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Union AYUSH Minister Prataprao Jadhav were also present on the occasion. In his address, the Prime Minister said that he is happy that India is emerging as a strong and reliable platform for the world in the field of traditional medicine.
He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to WHO, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and all the participants of the conference for organizing this successful event. He said that it is a matter of good fortune and pride for India that the WHO Global Center for Traditional Medicine has been established in Jamnagar, Gujarat. He said that during the first global conference in the year 2022, the world had expressed confidence in India and entrusted this big responsibility.
PM Modi said that yoga is an important part of the traditional medical system. Yoga has shown the whole world the path of health, balance and harmony. He said that with the efforts of India and the cooperation of more than 175 countries, the United Nations declared June 21 as International Yoga Day. Today yoga has reached every corner of the world. On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi also presented Prime Minister’s Awards to people who contributed in the promotion of Yoga.
Prime Minister Modi also informed that the South-East Regional Office of WHO has been inaugurated in Delhi today. He called it a humble gift given by India to the world. He said that this office will act as a global center for research, rule making and capacity building. While talking on Ayurveda, Shri Modi said that balance in it is considered health.
He said that “restoring balance” has become a global necessity today. He said that due to changing lifestyle, less physical labor and modern facilities, new health challenges are being posed to the human body. In such a situation, the role of traditional medicine becomes even more important.
While discussing the issue of safety and authenticity of traditional medicine, Prime Minister Modi gave the example of Ashwagandha. He said that the medicine has been a part of traditional medicine in India for centuries. Modi said that its global demand increased during Covid-19.
He said that India is now promoting Ashwagandha internationally through research and evidence based evidence. On this occasion, a postal stamp on Ashwagandha was also released. The conference also discussed the intersection of traditional knowledge and modern science, digital technology, AI tools and international cooperation.
Also, Delhi Declaration was described as an important achievement of the conference. At the conclusion of the conference, Shri Modi gave the message that traditional medicine is now moving in the direction from local to global and India is fully prepared to play a leadership role in this global effort.
