News India Live, Digital Desk: Amidst the conflagration of West Bengal Assembly elections 2026, an organization named ‘Anjani Putra Sena’ is once again in the headlines. His ‘Shobha Yatra’ being taken out in Howrah on the occasion of Ram Navami has created a stir in the politics of the state. On one hand, Mamata Banerjee government is strict on these rallies citing law and order, while on the other hand BJP is preparing to take electoral advantage by linking it to ‘Hindu identity’. Let us know what this organization is and what is its role in the power equation of Bengal.

What is Anjani Putra Sena? (What is Anjani Putra Sena)

Anjani Putra Sena is a Hindu social and cultural organisation, mainly active in Howrah and surrounding areas of West Bengal.

Establishment and Objectives: The organization claims that they have been taking out the Ram Navami procession for the last 25 years. Their main objective is to propagate Hindutva, connect the youth with their roots and renovate temples.

Relation to controversies: This organization came into limelight after the violence during Ram Navami in Shivpur area of Howrah in the years 2023 and 2024. The state government had accused him of inflammatory speech and display of weapons, which is now being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Strictness of the court and procession of 2026

This year i.e. on 26 March 2026, on the occasion of Ram Navami, the Calcutta High Court has given permission to Anjani Putra Sena to take out a Shobha Yatra, but very strict conditions with:

limited number: Not more than 500 people can attend the rally at one time.

Weapons ban: There is a complete ban on carrying any kind of real weapon (sword, mace). Only symbolic maces made of PVC (plastic) are allowed.

Punctuality: To avoid conflict with the rallies of police and VHP, the court has given them time from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Identity Card: For security reasons, it has been made mandatory to hand over copies of Aadhaar and PAN cards of the participants to the police.

Elections 2026: How will the game of polarization play out?

Ram Navami falling just before Bengal elections has become a big weapon for political parties.

BJP’s strategy: BJP is using this issue as a shield against the ‘appeasement politics’ of Mamata government. The rallies of PM Modi and Amit Shah are going to intensify immediately after Ram Navami. The party believes that ban or confrontation on processions will lead to polarization of Hindu voters, which can directly benefit the BJP.

TMC’s stance: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made it clear that she has no problem with the festival, but attempts to ‘incite riots’ will not be tolerated. TMC is accusing these organizations of spreading unrest by outsiders by calling them ‘B-team’ of BJP.

Howrah: gateway to power

Howrah and surrounding seats play a decisive role in Bengal elections. The influence of organizations like Anjani Putra Sena has grown rapidly over the urban and semi-urban middle class Hindu population. BJP is trying to break into TMC’s strong rural and minority vote bank by giving the message of ‘Hindu unity’ through these processions.
