According to the FBI, Patel stabbed Palak multiple times in the back room of the shop just before midnight. Who is Bhadresh Kumar?

The full name of the accused is Bhadreshkumar Chetanbhai Patel, who was born on 15 May 1990 in Viramgam, Gujarat state of India. He was married to Palak Patel in November 2013. In September 2014, the couple went to America to meet their relatives. At that time Bhadreshkumar was 24 years old and Palak was 21 years old.

On the night of April 13, 2015, both were working night shifts at a Dunkin’ Donuts store located on Arundel Mills Boulevard in the city of Hanover, Maryland. This shop belonged to a relative of Bhadreshkumar, whom the couple had come to America to meet. In the CCTV footage, both were seen walking together in the kitchen of the shop at around 9:30 pm. After this he went behind some racks and disappeared from the camera’s sight.

What came to light in the investigation?

After some time Bhadresh Kumar came back alone. He switched off the oven and walked out of the shop. Later that night, the body of 21-year-old Palak Patel was found. Investigation revealed that he had been beaten and stabbed multiple times with a large kitchen knife. Investigators believe there was a fight between the two. Palak wanted to return to India, while Bhadreshkumar wanted to stay in America.

After the murder, Bhadreshkumar reached his nearby apartment on foot from the shop. From there he took some personal belongings and went by taxi to a hotel near Newark Liberty International Airport. The taxi driver said that he looked quite calm during the journey.

He took a room in a hotel in Newark and was seen in CCTV footage paying cash at the counter and taking the room. He checked out of the hotel the next morning. Since then no trace of him has been found.
