But since 2021-22 there has been a rapid increase in exports. From 2023-24 to 2025-26 alone, export volume is estimated to increase from Rs 21,083 crore to Rs 38,424 crore. It is clear from this that defense equipment and systems manufactured in India are in high demand at the global level. The government has set a target of increasing defense exports to Rs 50,000 crore by 2029.

India’s defense exports are no longer limited to minor spare parts; So its scope has now expanded significantly. India currently exports a variety of items ranging from Tejas fighter jets to BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers, radars, armored vehicles, anti-drone systems, Dhruva and ‘Prachand’ helicopters, Aakash air defense missile systems, bulletproof jackets, and ammunition, all of which are in high demand in the global market.
