Glasgow/New Delhi: Another historic achievement has been registered for India in the Commonwealth Games 2026. Gulveer Singh, posted as Naib Subedar in the Indian Army, performed brilliantly and won the silver medal in the men’s 10,000 meter race. With this he became the first Indian athlete to win a silver medal in this event.
Gulveer Singh’s success is not just a story of a medal, but the result of struggle, discipline and continuous hard work. The special thing is that he started running not for any big sporting goal, but with the aim of joining the Indian Army.

The dream of joining the army became the foundation of sports career.
27-year-old Gulveer Singh, resident of Sirsa village in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh, started running to join the army in his youth. His hard work paid off and in 2018, he was selected in the prestigious Grenadiers Regiment of the Indian Army.
Even after joining the army, he did not stop practicing running. On the basis of regular training and better performance, he got the opportunity to represent India in national and international competitions.
A wonderful journey from Asian Games to Commonwealth
Gulveer Singh has consistently performed brilliantly at the international level. In the 2022 Asian Games, he made his mark by winning the bronze medal in the 10,000 meters race.
After this, he also won a bronze medal in the 5,000 meters event in the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships. Now by winning silver in the Commonwealth Games 2026, he has registered another major achievement in his career.

Gulveer also has national records in his name
Gulveer Singh is among India’s most successful long distance runners. He holds national records in 10,000 meters, 5,000 meters, half marathon and one mile races.
In the year 2026, he created a new history by completing the half marathon in 59 minutes 42 seconds. He became the first Indian runner to complete a half marathon in less than an hour.
Apart from this, he won gold medals in both 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters events in the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships.
In May 2026, at the Music City Carnival held in the US, he achieved another national achievement by completing a one-mile race in less than four minutes.
