The journey started from an ordinary family
Rinku Singh Rahi was born on 20 May 1982 in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh. His father ran a small flour mill and the financial condition of the family was very normal. He did his early education from a government school and got a scholarship by scoring good marks in 12th.
After this he completed his B.Tech from Tata Institute. Along with studies, he continued preparing for competitive examinations. In the year 2004, he passed the UPPCS examination and in 2008 became the District Social Welfare Officer.
Scam exposed and deadly attack
Rinku Singh came into limelight when he exposed a scholarship scam worth about Rs 100 crore in Muzaffarnagar in 2009. In this scam, government money was being misused through fake accounts.
After this revelation there was a fatal attack on him. While playing badminton, a volley of bullets were fired at him, in which he was hit by seven bullets. In this attack, his face was badly injured, he lost the vision of one eye and his hearing ability was also affected. After long treatment and several surgeries, he won the battle of life and did not give up.
Dream of becoming IAS fulfilled
Despite these difficult circumstances, he did not compromise on his goal. After continuous efforts, he passed the UPSC exam in 2021 and secured 683rd rank. After this he became an IAS officer of 2022 batch.
Tenure surrounded by controversies
His administrative tenure was also not untouched by controversies. On 24 July 2025, he was posted as SDM in Shahjahanpur. During the inspection here, he observed a person urinating in the open and organized sit-ups.
When the lawyers protested against this, he himself held a sit-in, holding his ears. This video went viral on social media, after which he was removed from his post and attached to the Revenue Council in Lucknow.
