His family’s pet Siberian cat ‘Zebu’ also arrived in Dhaka from London on Thursday along with Tariq Rehman, his wife Zubaida Rehman and daughter Jaima Rehman. Shortly after Tariq Rahman’s arrival in Dhaka, a formal announcement of Zebu’s return was made on the verified Facebook page of BNP. While sharing a picture, the caption was written, “Zebu has returned to the country.” This post immediately caught people’s attention.
Zebu also returned home
According to BNP’s Facebook post, the information about Zebu’s return to Bangladesh was made public after 12 noon. Shortly before this, the Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane, in which Tariq Rahman and his family were aboard, had landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Tariq Rehman returns after 17 years
Tariq Rahman has returned to Bangladesh after more than 17 years in exile. Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG 202, which had come from London via Sylhet, reached Dhaka at around 11:39 am.
On the occasion of his arrival, BNP organized a grand welcome ceremony in the 300 feet area of Purvanchal, where a large number of party leaders and workers were present. From the airport, Tariq Rehman went straight to the reception venue.
Zebu becomes social media star
Siberian cat Zebu, adopted by Tariq Rehman’s daughter Zaima Rehman, has become very popular on social media in recent months. It started when a picture of Zebu went viral, in which she was staring at Tariq Rehman’s mobile phone. After this, many photos and videos related to Zebu came out, which made it popular especially among young Bangladeshis and cat lovers.
Tariq Rehman had also earlier shared his pictures with Zebu on social media, which further increased its popularity. Speaking to BBC Bangla, he said, “This cat belongs to my daughter. Now, obviously, it has become everyone’s. We all love it very much.”
Center of discussion created by launching Facebook page
Interestingly, a few hours before Tariq Rahman returned to Dhaka, a separate Facebook page in the name of Zebu was launched. This was officially confirmed by Saimam Parvez, Special Assistant to the BNP President, Foreign Affairs Committee and head of the party’s content generation team.
