Who is Phulo Devi Netam, whom Congress made its candidate instead of TS Singhdev?
Elections are to be held on 37 Rajya Sabha seats across the country and today is the last day of nomination for this. Congress has now announced the names of its candidates for these elections. Putting aside the speculations, the party has given opportunity to local workers instead of big faces. From Himachal, Haryana to Chhattisgarh, the party has expressed confidence in the grassroots workers. The party has fielded candidates on a total of six seats, which also includes the name of Phulo Devi Netam from Chhattisgarh.
Congress has given tickets to Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Vem Narendra Reddy from Telangana. Phulo Devi from Chhattisgarh, Anurag Sharma from Himachal, Karmaveer Singh Bodh from Haryana and M. Christopher Tilak from Tamil Nadu have been made candidates. Most of these people are associated with the organization. Meanwhile, the name of Chhattisgarh candidate Phulo Devi is in discussion. The party has again expressed confidence in Phulo Devi, who comes from the tribal community.

Who is Phulo Devi Netam?
Phulo Devi Netam is a member of Rajya Sabha and her tenure is going to end on 9 April 2026. She is a senior leader of Chhattisgarh Congress and is also the state president of Mahila Congress. She has also been a member of Chhattisgarh Assembly. At present, along with Phulo Devi, Ranjit Ranjan and Rajeev Shukla of Congress were also MPs from Chhattisgarh, but the party has again expressed confidence in Phulo Devi.

Phulo Devi is originally from Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh. For the first time in 2020, the party sent him to Rajya Sabha. Before this, she had held many important positions in the organization. She is a prominent tribal leader of the state. Apart from him, the names of former Deputy Chief Minister TS Singhdev and State President Deepak Baij were also in discussion but the party approved the name of Phulo Devi.
Elections will be held on March 16
Today is the last day of nomination for 37 Rajya Sabha seats from 10 states of the country. Voting for these seats will be held on March 16 and counting of votes will take place after 5 pm on the same day. The states where elections will be held include Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Telangana. Congress has 35 MLAs in Chhattisgarh, so the party can win one seat.
