Who Is Judge Jitendra Singh: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has acquitted former CM Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the CBI case related to the excise policy scam, giving a big relief.

Who is Judge Jitendra Singh?
He is a senior judicial officer of Delhi Judicial Services and currently serves as Special Judge (PC Act) CBI-01 in Rouse Avenue Court, a post where he hears cases involving Prevention of Corruption Act, specifically cases being investigated by the CBI.
He has completed his law studies from Delhi University. In October 2024, he was promoted to the post of Additional Sessions Judge. Jitendra Singh is known as an honest, disciplined and strict judge.

Jitendra Singh was also in the news in the Delhi Waqf Board case, he had ordered the release of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan in November 2024. Although the judge had acknowledged that there was evidence against him, he had refused to take cognizance merely on the technical ground that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had not obtained the necessary government permission.

What is liquor scam case?
Actually, the Kejriwal government of Delhi was accused of making irregularities in the Excise (Liquor) policy of 2021-22 during its tenure. Following the report of former Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had recommended a CBI inquiry. Later, CBI registered a case and started investigation, on 26 February 2023, CBI arrested Manish Sisodia in this case, on 21 March 2024, Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Arvind Kejriwal after a long interrogation and on 26 June, CBI took him into custody from the jail itself.
