Who is Susan Coyle?

55-year-old Susan Coyle has handled many important responsibilities in her nearly three decade long career. He has served in the military in Afghanistan, Solomon Islands and the Middle East. He joined the army in 1987 and graduated as an officer from the Australian Defense Force Academy in 1992. After this he handled important responsibilities like Joint Task Force 633, Task Group Afghanistan and Information Warfare. From July 2024, she is working as Chief of Joint Capability, where she is commanding the areas related to space, cyber and modern defense systems.

Efforts to increase the number of women in the army

Susan Coyle’s appointment comes at a time when Australia’s military is trying to increase the participation of women. Currently the share of women in the Australian Defense Force is about 21%, while this figure in senior leadership is 18.5%. The government has set a target of increasing it to 25% by 2030. Last year, the Army was also accused of harassment and discrimination against women officers, after which the demand for reform intensified.
