Suneel Galgotia is the founder and owner of Galgotias University. The popular private university is located in Greater Noida. The university is in the news after a huge controversy erupted over the display of a robotic dog at Bharat Mandapam, where the AI Summit Expo 2026 is being held. The display of the robot raised questions about the origin and ownership of the technology showcased.
The Galgotias University is facing online flak for showcasing a robotic dog labelled ‘Orion’ at the expo. It has been said that the machine was a Chinese-made Unitree Go2 and not an in-house innovation.
Amid the sharp criticism, the Greater Noida-based institution released a statement saying, “the robotic programming is part of our endeavour to make students learn AI programming and develop and deploy real world skills using globally available tools and resources, given developing AI talent is the need of the hour.”
Suneel Galgotia: The visionary behind Galgotias University
Suneel Galgotia pursued his education from Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi. In 1980s, he started off with a publishing venture and thereafter founded the Galgotias Institute of Management and Technology (GIMT). The Uttar Pradesh government was granted the university status in 2011.
In 1980, Suneel launched Galgotias Publications and secured distribution rights for the prestigious Barrons SAT, TOEFL, GRE, and GMAT books. In 2000, he founded Galgotias Institute of Management & Technology (GIMT) and then the famous Galgotias College of Engineering and technology in the year 2000.
Suneel Galgotia is also the chairman of the Galgotias Group of Institutions. His family had a small retail bookstore in Connaught Place in 1930. Suneel Galgotia expanded the Galgotias Group and established several educational institutions.
Currently, Suneel’s son, Dr Dhruv Galgotia, is leading the Galgotias University as the CEO.
