First Date Etiquette: Who will pay the bill on the first date? Know what Gen Z thinks in the changing times

Who Should Pay On First Date: When you are going on a date for the first time, a thousand questions arise in your mind, which are sometimes emotional and sometimes practical, like who will pay the bills? This question has always been a point of discussion.

Although, no fixed rules have been made for this, but most people believe that this decision should be taken according to the situation and not only on the basis of gender.

According to a poll, only 13 percent people believe that a man should pay the bill every time. Whereas 40 percent people feel that the bill should always be split i.e. should be divided equally. Apart from this, 47 percent people think that paying bills completely depends on the situation.

The one who planned the date will pay the bill

Some percent of today’s young generation believe that if a woman has planned a date, she can also pay the bill without any hesitation and if a man has planned a date, then there should be no pressure on the woman to split the bill. It should not depend on gender but on courtesy.

The thinking of girls is also quite similar to this, they believe that if they invite someone on a date, they will not have any problem in paying the bills. However, if the male friend wants to pay the bill himself on the first date, it will be seen as effort. Girls also believe that splitting the bill on the first date can spoil the romantic atmosphere.

what does equality mean

Dating and relationship coach Mansi Seth says that sometimes women pay bills so that they can show themselves as financially strong, independent and stable. On the contrary, when a man pays the bill willingly, it shows his honesty, efforts and interest in the relationship.

Unspoken expectations end by sharing the bill

Another dating coach has a different opinion on this matter. He believes that by dividing the bill equally in the initial meetings, equality is maintained between the two people and no one feels any favor or pressure. According to him, the purpose of the first few dates is to understand each other, and not to decide who spent how much. If the relationship progresses later, then with time a balance is created between both the partners. Sometimes one partner pays the bills, sometimes the other partner.
