Who was Alha? With whose support Samajwadi Party is expanding its foothold in Bundelkhand

‘Alha’, the great warrior of medieval India, was born on this day, about 900 years ago. Alha, along with her brother Udal, 12 years younger than her, fought many battles for the Chandela king Parmal and led them to victory. Stories of his bravery are still told with pride in the homes of Bundelkhand. Alha is counted among the biggest symbols of Bundelkhand’s identity, bravery and folk culture. In many areas of Bundelkhand, Alha is seen not only as a historical warrior but also as a folk hero and pride.

Alha remains relevant even today after 900 years because stories full of his bravery are still told in Bundelkhand. Today, on May 25, 2026, once again the discussion about Alha started. Lakhs of posts are being written on social media about Alha. Apart from the common people, the most prominent name in this is that of Samajwadi Party. SP on Monday described Alha as synonymous with bravery and bravery. SP has paid tribute to Alha by calling him a great warrior born on the land of Bundelkhand.

SP is supporting social equations

Actually, only a few months are left for the assembly of Uttar Pradesh. In view of the elections, Samajwadi Party has taken all social equations including caste based into consideration. In this episode, SP has remembered Alha. Alha is seen as a symbol of regional identity and pride in Bundelkhand.

Allah is a symbol of sacrifice

For the people of Bundelkhand, Alha is a symbol of self-respect, courage and sacrifice of their region. The memories and folklore related to him are still alive in Mahoba and surrounding areas. Not only this, in some parts of Bundelkhand, people look at Alha with reverence more than as a brave man. With time his character has also become associated with the faith of the people, which is getting stronger with the passage of time.

Alha Yadav, but a universal warrior

According to historians, Alha was an Ahir (Yadav) by caste. But, in Bundelkhand they are seen above caste. There is a saying in Bundelkhand that ‘Mahoba and Alha are synonymous with each other’ i.e. Alha is deeply ingrained in the cultural identity there. The tradition of singing Alha is quite famous in Bundelkhand during the rainy season and fairs. Folk singers convey the stories of history and bravery to new generations by singing the heroic story of Alha-Udal. This is an important part of Bundeli culture.

This proves how much emotional attachment people have towards the warrior who is so deeply embedded in the culture of Bundelkhand. Now if we look at it in today’s political perspective, Samajwadi Party wrote a post remembering Alha on Sunday morning itself. In this post he remembered ‘Bundelkhand’ with Alha.

There is a battle of 19 in Bundelkhand

Actually, there are 7 districts in Bundelkhand region. It includes Jhansi, Jalaun, Lalitpur, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Banda and Chitrakoot. There are a total of 19 assembly seats in these seven districts. SP was able to win only 3 out of 19 seats in the 2022 assembly elections, while BJP got 16 seats. Earlier in the 2017 elections, BJP had defeated SP by winning all 19 seats. But, SP wants to weaken BJP here by winning maximum seats in 2027 elections.

The well-known Allah is also a strategy in SP’s strategy to win more seats in Bundelkhand. This is the reason why Samajwadi Party is spreading its foot in Bundelkhand remembering Alha. Apart from this, Samajwadi Party is continuously cornering the government here on issues like water, migration, farming and development.
