New casting rumors reveal that Kalyani Priyadarshan has now become the first choice to play veteran actress Madhubala in a grand and ambitious biopic backed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This film is directed by Jasmeet K. Reign, best known for the 2022 Netflix hit *Darlings*.
Earlier reports had strongly linked Sara Arjun’s (*Dhurandhar* fame) name for the role, and some media outlets had even claimed that she has been finalized for the role. In the initial speculations, names of Aneet Padda and other artists were also revealed. However, according to recent sources from the industry, the filmmakers have now shifted their focus to Kalyani. The main reason for this is his increasing pan-India popularity, especially after the success of his film *Lokah*. It is being said that her natural charm, innocence and screen presence largely matches Madhubala’s iconic image.
The project is envisioned as a large-scale cinematic tribute to one of Bollywood’s most beloved and tragic stars, often referred to as the “Venus of Indian Cinema.” It aims to celebrate the life, career and immortal legacy of Madhubala from the golden age of Hindi cinema.
