Why did Bumrah reach BCCI office just before IPL? MI fans got upset

Mumbai: India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will report to BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for workload management. ESPN Cricinfo has learned that Bumrah is at the COE primarily to work on strength and conditioning. It is understood that Bumrah’s stint at the COE has been planned by the BCCI medical team with a focus on India’s white-ball tour of England in July, where he will play five T20Is and three ODIs.

It is understood that Bumrah will continue bowling in the COE and will join Mumbai Indians soon as they prepare to play their first match of IPL 2026, which is a home game against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29. Bumrah recently played a key role in making India the first team to defend their T20 World Cup title and won the player-of-the-match award in the final against New Zealand.

India won the final by 96 runs, with Bumrah taking 4 wickets for 15 runs in his four overs. Bumrah, who has played only for MI in his IPL career, has taken 186 wickets in 148 matches and is just nine wickets behind Lasith Malinga as the leading wicket taker for MI.

Meanwhile, MI have begun their training at the Wankhede Stadium as they look to win a record sixth IPL title. They last won the trophy in 2020 and this is their longest wait since winning the title for the first time in 2013.
