Why did ICC impose fine on Arshdeep Singh? 15% match fee will be cut, know the reason
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh. The fine was imposed after India won the final of the T20 World Cup 2026, which was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8. ICC has fined Arshdeep Singh 15 percent of his match fee and also given him one demerit point. The ICC made the announcement through social media posts and a press release on its website. According to ICC, Arshdeep Singh has broken Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct. This refers to throwing a ball or other object at or near another player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during a match.

What is the whole matter?
Actually, an incident happened during the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings in the final match of T20 World Cup 2026. When the team was chasing the target of 256 runs. While bowling, Arshdeep picked up the ball in his follow-through and threw it towards the stumps but the ball hit the pad of batsman Daryl Mitchell. After being hit by the ball, Arshdeep could not immediately apologize and returned to his run-up. Mitchell looked a little angry at this and moved towards Arshdeep. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav intervened and handled the situation. On-field umpire Richard Illingworth also had a brief conversation with Arshdeep.

This charge was decided jointly by ICC on-field umpire Alex Wharfe, third umpire Allahuddin Palekar and fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock. This is the first violation of Arshdeep Singh in the last 24 months. According to ICC rules, a Level 1 violation can result in a player receiving a penalty like an official warning, a fine of up to 50 percent of the match fee and one or two demerit points.
Arshdeep apologized after the match
When the final match ended, Arshdeep Singh went to Daryl Mitchell and apologized. In a conversation after India’s victory, he told that this incident happened completely unintentionally. Arshdeep said that his throw had reverse swung and the ball hit Mitchell, so he immediately apologized to him.

Later, in a video shared on the social media account of the New Zealand team, Arshdeep was also seen apologizing to Mitchell again. After this both the players shook hands and ended the matter.
