Why did Mohan Bhagwat start demanding Veterinary Council by mentioning stray dogs?

For some time now, there has been a lot of uproar regarding stray dogs in India. The matter is spread everywhere from the Supreme Court to the streets. Meanwhile, now Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday spoke on dogs and other pets and animals. During his speech in a college, Mohan Bhagwat said that he was advocating a middle path in the ongoing controversy regarding dogs. Along with this, he advocated the co-existence of humans and animals and also highlighted the importance of animals for farmers.

 

The association chief had attended an event organized by the Indian Society for Advancement of Canine Practice and Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU). In this program, he described the important role of veterinary doctors in the society. During this, he said that decisions related to animals should be taken under the guidance of veterinary doctors and experts.

What did you say about the issue of dogs?

Mohan Bhagwat said in the beginning of his speech that he has studied from this college and he is speaking today as a student. He also told that he left the veterinary field about 50 years ago. Referring to the uproar over abandoned dogs, the Sangh chief said that the debate had reached two extremes. He said, ‘One side was saying kill all the dogs, the other was saying don’t even touch them, but if humans have to live with dogs, then they have to think how to live together.’

What is the solution to the problem of dogs?

In his speech, Mohan Bhagwat expressed his views on the problem of stray dogs and also gave its solution. He said that a middle path should be found to resolve this issue. He said, ‘The number of dogs can be controlled through sterilization. There are several ways to reduce the risk to humans. These are solutions derived from knowledge, not emotions.

Veterinary Council’s demand

Mohan Bhagwat, while speaking in this program, highlighted the importance of veterinary doctor. Along with this he also made a special demand. He said that there should be institutional reforms in this area. He said, ‘There should be a separate Veterinary Council. I believe this is necessary. Decisions related to animals should be in the hands of those who understand the subject. He said that the players understand the game better, similarly animals should have a separate veterinary council. I strongly believe this is necessary. Decisions related to animals should be in the hands of only those who understand the veterinary doctor well.

Role of animals in the lives of farmers

Mohan Bhagwat said that the role of veterinary doctor is more than what is understood. He said that an agricultural country like India is getting benefits as long as the farmers are doing animal husbandry along with agriculture. Describing the thinking of considering the scope of veterinary profession as limited, the Sangh chief said that earlier it was believed that the role of veterinary doctors is limited but this thinking is not correct. He said that the role of veterinary doctor is important in society, public health and policy making.
