Why did Samsung discontinue the foldable phone within three months of its launch?

Samsung has begun phasing out sales of the Galaxy Z TriFold after just three months. This move was first made in South Korea and now it may also be difficult to get in the US until stocks last. Samsung’s double-folding phone discontinued

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold was launched by the company in South Korea in December 2025 as its first double-folding smartphone. Later it also became available in America in January 2026. With a price tag of $2,899 i.e. approximately ₹2.41 lakh, this phone was targeting only a limited customer segment.

Samsung had indicated that the phone was out of stock even before the official announcement of its closure. According to reports, the company’s website stopped promoting new stocks and started showing the device as ‘sold out’. Additionally, the phone did not become widely available in major retail stores or through carriers.

Why was Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold discontinued?

The biggest problem of this phone was its high price. The TriFold was priced at around ₹2.41 lakh, which was also higher than Samsung’s other premium phones like the Galaxy Z Fold series. Due to this price, this phone remained limited only to tech enthusiasts and new users.

The second challenge was its availability. The device was only available in a limited number of markets and could only be purchased directly from Samsung. While Samsung’s other Galaxy phones can be easily purchased from various retail and carrier stores, the TriFold doesn’t get the same support. Therefore, its reach was very limited.

Now what is going to happen next?

Samsung hasn’t completely eliminated this form factor. According to a report on Naver blog, the company is working on the next-generation TriFold phone, which may be launched in the future. In this the design can become even thinner and lighter. Apart from this, Galaxy Z Slide can also be introduced.

However, at the moment it seems that the first Galaxy Z TriFold was only meant to showcase the capabilities of Samsung’s foldable technology, and not be a true mainstream device.
