Why did Delhi High Court ban Deepika Padukone’s self-care brand 82°E?
Delhi High Court recently ordered the actress Deepika Padukone A big verdict has been given against Deepika Padukone’s company. This decision has come regarding the name of a product related to their self-care brand 82°E. A company named Lotus Herbals Private Limited sued Deepika’s company DPKA Universal Consumer Ventures. Lotus Herbals said that 82°E brand face cleanser is being sold under the name ‘Lotus Splash’, which is very similar to their registered ‘Lotus’ trademark. This may cause confusion among customers, as both are used for cosmetics and skincare products.
The division bench of the court heard this case. Justices V. Kameshwar Rao and Vinod Kumar said that prima facie the case appears to be in favor of Lotus Herbals. So he imposed a temporary ban. This means that now Deepika’s company cannot sell, make or advertise cosmetics, beauty or hygiene products using the name ‘Lotus Splash’ or any name similar to it, until the final decision of the case comes.
What happened in the hearing?
Earlier a single judge had refused to impose this ban, but now in appeal the Division Bench overturned that decision. The court also said that ‘Lotus Splash’ cannot be used to denote the quality or ingredients of a product under the exemption granted under Section 30(2)(a) of the Trademark Act. This decision has come recently (around February 2026), and the court order with complete details is awaited.
