Rear fog lamp is an essential safety feature. It is is incredibly useful in poor visibility scenarios and there have been a standard fitment on a lot of cars but in recent times, Indian manufacturers have been removing this very essential feature from their cars. Maruti, Hyundai, Mahindra and even Tata recently who bang on about safety so much has removed the rear fog lamp from their cars.
One reason could be that the Indian audience is mostly unaware of this feature and barely use it or if they are using it, then it is usually in a wrong way. The other reason is mostly cost cutting. Since many people don’t know or care about this feature, manufacturers have stopped providing it and in turn they save costs. Some cars don’t even have the provision for them while others just have blanked out parts.
Rear Fog Lamps Used To Be Standard Back In The Day
Funnily, rear fog lamps used to be standard fitment on a lot of cars. Even Maruti used to offer it, with sometimes it being a standard thing on cars like the Swift. But they stopped giving them with the new generation of cars. Similarly, Hyundai used to offer rear fog lamps on most of their cars but they have stopped this practise as well and they no longer offer a rear fog lamp. Similar is the case with Mahindra and also Tata who have stopped offering rear fog lamps on their cars and they just leave a blank space where it should really have been.
What Cars Still Offer Rear Fog Lamps
Many German cars still offer rear fog lamps as standard fitment.
This essential feature can still be found on some of the cars, most of them are quite premium. Germans have always incorporated rear fog lamps into their cars and cars from Volkswagen and Skoda do offer this feature as standard. Tata also has this feature available on the Safari and Harrier while Toyota started giving rear fog lamps on the Fortuner after 2018. MG also likes to offer rear fog lamps on most of its models while the more luxurious cars do come with it as standard since they are already international spec where it is a mandate.
