After all, why is Test cricket not played with red ball only? There are many reasons, not just one.
Test Cricket: Fans like cricket played with red ball in white jersey, which is called Test cricket. To make it even more interesting, ICC started the World Test Championship in 2019 and since then people have become more interested in it. But, has this question ever come to your mind that why only red color ball is used in Test cricket? So let us tell you about this in this article…
Why is red color ball used in Test Cricket?
If you are also thinking that there is only color difference between the red ball and the white ball, then this is not at all correct, because there is a lot of difference between these two balls. In such a situation, red ball is used in Test cricket for many reasons. One of the main reasons for this is that the red ball does not get old quickly. Usually 90 overs are bowled in a day in a test match.
In such a situation, red ball is considered better than white ball. Red ball works well for about 70-80 overs. This does not happen with the white ball. That is why in a Test match, there is a rule to replace the old ball with a new ball after 80 overs.
reverse swing
Red ball has good edge. That is why it usually does not swing reverse. Reverse swing is more in case of white ball. In limited overs cricket like ODI and T20, reverse swing is seen from the very beginning of the match. But in Test cricket this happens after 40-50 overs.
As a result, even after the ball is worn out, the batting team gets the advantage. If white ball is used instead of red ball in Test cricket, then reverse swing will be seen from the very beginning of the match. The batsmen will have trouble understanding the ball from the beginning.
Pink ball is also used
Nowadays, day-night test matches are quite popular. Often in a Test series, one match is held day-night, which is played with pink ball. The pink ball is clearly visible to the players at night. Pink ball is mainly designed for day-night matches only. Pink ball is helpful in playing the game well in low light. Difference of thread – Red ball is stitched with white colored thread, whereas pink ball is stitched with black colored thread.
