Rename Sunday to ‘Sun-duty’, Mysogynistic: Goenka, Jwala criticise L&T chairman
New Delhi: Harsh Goenka, Chairman of RPG Enterprises, on Friday contradicted Larsen & Toubro (L&T) chairman SN Subrahmanyan who advocated for a 90-hour work week for the employees.
Goenka opined that working for 90 hours a week is not the solution and one needs to focus on working hard and smart. Taking a veiled attack on L&T chairman for wanting to call employees to work on Sundays, the Chairman of RPG Enterprises said that “Why not rename Sunday to ‘Sun-duty’”.
“90 hours a week? Why not rename Sunday to ‘Sun-duty’ and make ‘day off’ a mythical concept! Working hard and smart is what I believe in, but turning life into a perpetual office shift? That’s a recipe for burnout, not success. Work-life balance isn’t optional, it’s essential,” Goesnka posted on X.
Jwala Gutta labels L&T chairman’s comments as ‘misogynistic’
Subrahmanyan also received a flak from former badminton player Jwala Gutta who not only criticised him for his 90-hour work week culture thought but also over his comments on how ong a person can stare at his wife.
“What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? How long can wives stare at their husbands? Go to the office and start working,” L&T chairman said while interacting with one of his company’s employees. He made the comments while sending a video message to L&T employees where he suggested that employees should work 90 hours a week — including Sundays.
“I mean…first of all, why shouldn’t he stare at his wife…and why only on a Sunday,” she posted on X. The formed badminton player described Subrahmanyan’s comments as “misogynistic,” describing the situation as both “disappointing and scary.”
D Prasanth Nair, who is in the Advisory Board-Nasscom Community, said, “I’m sure in the spirit of “who works harder” someone is going to say 168 hour work week is ideal.”
