“He is a good player but…” Why is Shubman Gill out of T20 World Cup 2026? Suryakumar told the reason

Shubman Gill Dropped: BCCI has announced the team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 today i.e. on 20th December. Shubman Gill, who played the role of vice-captain in the T20 series against South Africa, has not got a place in the main 15. During the press conference, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was questioned about dropping Gill. On which he said that he has been dropped due to the balance of the team.

Suryakumar gave statement on Shubman

During the press conference, Suryakumar Yadav was asked about the exclusion of Shubman Gill. In response to this he said that Gill is a quality player. But according to the balance of the team, the wicketkeeper’s place is being made in the top order. Due to this, Shubman has been thrown out. He said,

When I became captain for the first time, the team scored 200 runs, Shubman Gill played well in that match. There is no question about his form. But now the situation has come such that we need a wicketkeeper batsman in the upper order, that is why Ishan Kishan has been selected. Rinku Singh can play the role of finisher in the lower order. You can select only 15 players. Shubman is a high quality player.

For T20 World Cup 2026, Shubman Gill has been dropped and Ishan Kishan has been given entry. Both Ajit Agarkar and Suryakumar Yadav said that they need a wicketkeeper to bat in the top order. Due to this, Rinku Singh has also been given place in place of Jitesh Sharma. Apart from this, Akshar Patel has been made the vice-captain.
