AI and the increasing computing power of graphic processing units will create a new industrial revolution, and Vietnam needs its own AI factories to embrace this, an Nvidia executive said.
Dennis Ang, the U.S. chip giant’s business director for ASEAN, Australia and New Zealand, said the application of generative AI – which uses machine learning to create new content – now spans all sectors.
These advancements indicate that the world has an unprecedented opportunity as generative AI and GPU-powered computation grow, setting the stage for a new industrial revolution, he said while speaking at a forum in HCMC on Thursday.
“A new industrial revolution requires new factories. That is why we need AI factories.”
These factories, instead of making physical products like traditional ones, will utilize computation to create intelligent digital products, he said.
Vietnam’s AI factories would allow local users to leverage their own data and language to build models that understand locals and adapt to their culture, he pointed out.
In the next five to 10 years around US$3 trillion would be invested in data centers to serve as homes for AI factories, and these would eventually create $100 trillion in value, he predicted.
To be part of this new wave of development, visionary partners are required, and that was why Nvidia chose to partner with Vietnam’s FPT, he said.
FPT and Nvidia had announced in April they would set up a $200-million AI factory in Vietnam.
This week the Vietnamese company also said it would build an AI factory in Japan using thousands of Nvidia GPUs.
