Why was outstanding tax of Rs 33 lakh issued in the name of Madhavrao Scindia?

These days a list of Municipal Corporation has become the center of discussion in Gwalior city of Madhya Pradesh. Since it is the month of March, the corporation is busy collecting taxes to fill its empty coffers. In this connection, the corporation prepared a list of those big families and institutions of the city, on which taxes worth lakhs and crores are outstanding. The surprising thing is that the name of former Union Minister late Madhavrao Scindia is also included in this list, on whom property tax outstanding of about Rs 33.32 lakh is shown.

Surprisingly, this list became public on March 10, which is also the birth date of Madhavrao Scindia. As soon as this name went viral on social media and WhatsApp groups, the politics of the city heated up. Seeing the opposition from the supporters and the growing controversy, the corporation officials hurriedly removed this list from the government groups, but by then this news had spread throughout the state.

The situation is such that there is no money even to pay salaries to the employees and pay the old bills of the contractors. Amidst this pressure, a decision was taken to speed up tax collection in a meeting held on March 6. In the meeting, Congress councilors had raised questions regarding the tax on big properties like Jaivilas Palace and Katora Tal, on which they had a heated debate with BJP councilors.
