Wild LeBron James fact emerges ahead of Lakers-Thunder series
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers kick off Game 1 of their playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday, and when James takes the court, he’ll notch another wild bit of trivia.
James, who’s no stranger to making history, is 41 years old and the oldest active player in the NBA. When he enters this series on Tuesday, he’ll actually step onto the court being the same age as both his head coach, JJ Redick, and Oklahoma City’s head coach, Mark Daigenault.
Yahoo Sports shared the interesting fact on social media ahead of Game 1.
Looking at the age of the Lakers and Thunder coaches and LeBron James in Game 1
Redick is the oldest of the three and was born on June 24, 1984. Daigenault is the youngest and was born on Feb. 23, 1985. James is between the two, with his birthday falling on Dec. 30, 1984.
James is roughly a generation older than the average NBA player at this point. According to research from The Hoops Geekthe average NBA player is 26.4 years old and the median age is 25.5. Their research for the study was created using data from Basketball-Reference.comand they calculated age using the 1st January for each season. Exact age was used for the statistics, so they used 26.5 years instead of 26 years, for example.
“The number includes all players that played at least one game during the season, therefore including a lot of young prospects that only played very few minutes,” The Hoops Geek states in their report.
It’s wild that James is still out there, breaking NBA records nearly every night, and he’s much closer in age to the coaching staff than the players in the NBA. You don’t have to call him the GOAT or king if you don’t want to, but there’s certainly an argument for it.
