Mumbai: The maximum city is set to witness another clash of titans as the Adani group readies a $2 billion chest to fund Mumbai’s largest convention centre, expected to come up near the city’s international airport. Currently, Mumbai’s most famous convention centre is Jio World Convention Centre housed in the Bandra Kurla Complex business district.
Jio World Convention Centre was built by mukesh ambani-led Reliance Industries. It is known to host a gamut of cultural events from musicals to social events.
All about Adani group convention centre
Adani Group has bagged the new convention centre project from the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA). The conglomerate awaits a nod on the detailed blueprint, the Mint reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The new convention centre will be placed in Vile Parle, according to the report.
It is expected to span 1.5 million sq ft with a capacity for 20,000 peopel. Out of this, 1.2 million sq ft will be indorr space while 0.3 million sq ft will be earmarked for parking and other facilities. The centre will also have 275 5-star hotel rooms.
Which is India’s largest convention centre?
The Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi, is India’s largest convention centre spread across 3.2 million sq ft. It has 15 convention rooms and 11 meeting rooms capable of holding overall 11,000 delegates The Jio World Convention Centre is currently Mumbai’s largest convention centre at a 1 million sq ft capacity.
It has 3 exhibition halls and 2 convention halls. The RIL-owned property features 25 meeting rooms and suites apart from 2 business lounges apart from multi-storey concourses, the TOI reported. The International Convention Centre to be launched by Adani Group will be managed by Adani Airport Holdings.
Why are convention centres important?
Convention centres cater to the widening requirements of a MICE economy. MICE denotes meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions. These venues are expected to create jobs. Some of the major convention centres across the globe include Shanghai’s National Exhibition and Convention Center with an area of 15.8 million sq ft, Hong Kong’s Convention and Exhibition Centre spread across 3.2 million sq ft and Singapore’s Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre spanning 0.18 million sq ft.
