Will assembly elections be held before time in Uttarakhand? BJP and Congress both active, speculations intensify
Dehradun: These days a new discussion is gaining momentum in the politics of Uttarakhand. Assembly elections are still a few months away from the scheduled time, but there is constant discussion in political circles about the possibility of holding elections before time. Although no official announcement has been made in this regard yet, the increasing activism of BJP and opposition parties has given further fuel to these discussions. According to sources, in view of the proposed census program in the year 2027, the possibility of change in the election program is being considered.
It is being told that if census and assembly elections are held almost at the same time, there may be additional pressure on the administrative system. A senior official associated with BJP, on the condition of anonymity, said that a large number of teachers and government employees are deployed for both election duty and census. In such a situation, if both important tasks are done simultaneously, the workload on the employees can increase significantly. For this reason, suggestions have come forward to hold elections earlier in some states.
Possibility of change in many states including Uttarakhand
According to political discussions, similar possibilities are being considered regarding election programs not only in Uttarakhand but also in Goa, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The tenure of the Legislative Assembly of these states is to end in February 2027, while the census program is also proposed at the same time. Sources say that if elections in Uttarakhand are conducted a few months in advance, then the employees engaged in election duty can get enough time before the census. However, the final decision on this will be taken by the concerned constitutional institutions only.
BJP President visits Mussoorie, workers get message
Meanwhile, BJP National President Nitin Naveen is on a stay in Mussoorie for the last three days. During his tour he held meetings with party workers and local leaders. In the meeting he laid special emphasis on strengthening the organization up to the booth level. He told the workers that the basis of the party’s success is a strong booth system. Every worker should go and establish dialogue among the public and strengthen the organization at the grassroots level. This is considered to be his second visit to Uttarakhand within the last 20 days, due to which an increase in political activities is being seen.
BJP preparing to return to power for the third time
BJP is running the government in Uttarakhand for the second consecutive time. The party is also working with the aim of winning the upcoming assembly elections and coming to power for the third consecutive time. This is the reason why preparations have already been intensified at the organizational level. The party leadership is busy activating the workers and strengthening the election strategy.
Formation of core committees in 70 assembly constituencies
Amid possible election preparations, BJP has formed core committees for all the 70 assembly seats in the state. On the instructions of the central leadership, the meetings of these committees have also started. In these meetings, discussions are being held on strengthening the organization up to the booth level, increasing contact with voters and the upcoming election strategy. The party’s focus is on strengthening its hold at the grassroots level.
Congress also came into election mode
Amidst the activism of BJP, Congress also seems to be accelerating its election preparations. Congress state in-charge Kumari Shailja is reaching Uttarakhand on a two-day tour on 17th and 18th June. During this time, she will hold separate meetings with district heads, officials of various cells and leaders associated with the organization. Their objective is said to be to strengthen the organization and prepare strategies for the upcoming elections.
Political experts believe that this time the Congress leadership also seems serious about Uttarakhand. There has been a continuous increase in the activism of the state in-charge for some time now. This visit of Kumari Shailja is also being considered important because through this an attempt will be made to instill new enthusiasm among the party workers and prepare the organization for the elections.
