Will Debabrata Saikia also leave Congress? Tension increased due to Himanta’s reply to the allegations

Senior Congress leader and former state president Bhupen Bora has left his party and joined the BJP camp. Amidst the race for power and position, on February 18, the Election Commission released the schedule of elections for 37 Rajya Sabha seats in 10 states. In this, elections are to be held on three seats of Assam also. Meanwhile, another discussion has started in the political corridors of the capital Guwahati that senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Debabrata Saikia can also join BJP. Actually, Debabrata Saikia is eyeing a Rajya Sabha seat.
India Today, quoting BJP sources, has claimed that Debabrata Saikia has been in talks with BJP for a Rajya Sabha seat for some time. Although there has been no official confirmation of this, but the time for speculation is important because these days the news of speculations in Assam is becoming true.

Congress may get a shock?
In such a situation, if Debabrata Saikia changes sides and joins BJP, it will give another big blow to Congress in Assam. After this setback, Congress may be in trouble in the assembly elections.
Himanta Biswa’s statement and Saikia
Recently, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said in a statement that BJP has almost finalized its candidates for all three Rajya Sabha seats from Assam. During this time, he had also given a statement regarding Debabrata Saikia. CM said, ‘If you see the statements of Debabrata Saikia in the last five years, you will see that every time he says that his mother is not allowing him to change sides. Otherwise he had no problem in joining BJP. But BJP has almost decided its candidates for all three seats. There is no such vacancy. We will win all three Rajya Sabha seats.

Debabrata Saikia gave statement
Debabrata Saikia, on his part, has neither given any direct reply nor any denial on these speculations. However he said, ‘I don’t know about all this. I do not know. These are all guesses. There is an attempt to create confusion among Congress leaders. You tell the source and I will answer based on that.
During this, Saikia expressed disappointment over Bhupen Bora’s move and said, ‘Let him go. I will give them my blessings. He was my president. We worked together. When I became a new MLA for the first time in 2001, he told me how to present my views in the Assembly. I respect his guidance. Debabrata Saikia also made it clear that he will not join BJP due to differences in ideology.
