‘Will do everything possible to strengthen our armed forces’, says PM Modi commemorating a decade of OROP- The Week

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the ‘One Rank, One Pension’ was a significant step towards addressing long-standing demand of the armed forces and the government will do everything possible to strengthen it.

Commemorating a decade of OROP, Modi said in a post on X, “This was a tribute to the courage and sacrifices of our veterans and ex-service personnel who dedicate their lives to protecting our nation. The decision to implement OROP was a significant step towards addressing this long-standing demand and reaffirming our nation’s gratitude to our heroes.”

The first Narendra Modi-led cabinet, which came to power in 2014, decided to implement OROP by issuing an order on November 7, 2015, making its benefits effective from July 1, 2014.

Modi noted over a decade, lakhs of pensioners and their families have benefited from the landmark initiative. “Beyond the numbers, OROP represents the government’s commitment to the well-being of our armed forces. We will always do everything possible to strengthen our armed forces and further the welfare of those who serve us,” he tweeted.
