Will Lungi Ngidi play DC vs RCB game? Here’s the latest update
The cricketing world was left in concern and silence after Lungi Ngidi suffered a serious head injury during the Delhi Capitals’ clash against Punjab Kings a couple of days ago at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Now, as Delhi Capitals gear up for a crucial encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday at the same venue, the big question remains — will Ngidi be available for selection or will DC be forced to continue without one of their key overseas pacers?
What exactly happened to Lungi Ngidi?
In the third over of the Punjab Kings innings, Priyansh Arya attempted an aggressive shot and sliced the ball high towards the mid-off region. Lungi Ngidi, stationed inside the circle, sprinted backwards while tracking the ball.
However, while trying to complete the catch, he lost balance mid-movement and fell awkwardly backward. The impact was severe as the back of his head struck the ground heavily on the outfield.
Ngidi immediately appeared in visible pain, clutching the back of his head, while medical staff rushed onto the field. Players from both sides quickly gathered as the seriousness of the situation became evident.
Given the nature of the injury, a neck brace was placed as a precaution before he was carefully lifted onto a stretcher and taken away in an ambulance for further medical assessment.
Ngidi still under observation
As per the latest updates from the DC camp, Lungi Ngidi has been kept under medical observation following scans and initial treatment. The franchise has taken a cautious approach, given that the injury involved a head impact.
Ngidi is stable and is due to be discharged shortly from the hospital.

While the good news is that he is stable and conscious, the recovery timeline remains uncertain. More importantly, he is yet to be fully cleared for training or match fitness assessments.
At this stage, Lungi Ngidi is not to feature in the upcoming DC vs RCB clash on Monday, with Delhi Capitals not willing to take any risks by rushing him back into action.
What are DC’s possible options next?
DC are also keeping an eye on Mitchell Starc’s availability, who remains a potential boost for the squad if fully fit and cleared in time.
Besides that, the management is expected to reshuffle their bowling combination depending on conditions at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with either Dushmantha Chameera or Kyle Jamieson likely to come into consideration as replacement options to strengthen the pace attack.
